about

Paula Alvarado (1981-   ) Armenia, Colombia.

One of the finest & most refreshing Contemporary artistic talents. The works of Paula Alvarado resurrect the world of Surrealism, a powerful reminder of dreams & Mysticism, having a spiritual significance, in this particular instance, of achieving beauty through her own sufferings and hopes.

Paula has European and Amerindian roots and has been influenced by different cultures throughout her life. She left her home country when still very young and moved to Germany. It was the great cultural clash she suffered there that set her creativity in motion. Initially, caught between foreign cultures, she expressed in paintings what she couldn’t do with words: feeling rootless, broken, betrayed, and lost to the point of questioning her own existence.

Having spent many years in different countries around the globe, she is essentially an Internationalist, an infusion of the German, Californian & Latin American spirit, but more specifically, still a Columbian artist at heart.

Her productions are mainly focused on the female body and are full of drama, despair, intensity, and sensuality. The use of vivid, bright colours and the integration of nature into her paintings create a strong contrast that catches the eye and the spirit.

She comes across as the Frida Kahlo of our time.

my art project

The Alvarado Art Project is my personal space for creativity and inspiration.

Here I immortalize glimps of momentary states of mind lived with great intensity, useless thoughts, bizarre experiences, fragments of my life philosophy, moments of the utmost sadness, joy, excitement, desire...

I have learnt from great teachers; people who have loved me and hated me; people who have believed in me and people who haven't. They and my interaction with them have contributed to my perception of myself in the universe and of the universe itself. Desire, love, sensuality, spirituality, and hatred are my greatest masters. An evergoing twirl of emotions is what feeds my spirit; for me, there is no life in the absence of strong emotions.

This my inner world; a place where I feel whole, strong, and creative. A place of love, hatred, sensuality, nature, and spirituality. All together - mixed-up and messed-up.
